Ashleigh and Steve – The Rocks/La Aqua – 04 FEB 18

Wedding photography in Sydney

I traveled down to Sydney from the Gold Coast to photograph Ashleigh and Steve’s wedding which was held at Hickson Road Reserve which is a short walk from the bottom of the Harbour Bridge.

Ashleigh prepared for her big day at the Hyatt Regency in Sydney, Sydney’s largest and most luxurious hotel.

Ideally, the best time for a photographer to arrive is when the bride is just getting her makeup finished. Once the bride has finished hair and makeup, then I always get a shot of all the girls in their robes and then into putting on dress shots etc.  I find 90 minutes is usually the perfect amount of time to allow for bridal preparation.

The ceremony was conducted by Deborah Jenkins who did a fantastic job.  Once the ceremony had concluded, then it was time to go straight into the big group photograph and then family photographs. I always let the bride and groom chat to their guests for 5 to 10 minutes after walking down the isle as husband and wife.

The last thing you want is a bossy photographer telling you to stop talking to your loved one to have your picture taken. We then ducked across the road for some bride and groom portraits under the creeping ivy.

I have always loved this little spot for photographs as it always has nice, soft light and there is a nice contrast between the sandstone wall and the green ivy. We did the obligatory harbour bridge photos and then headed up to a little park up the road.

We then had a well deserved rest for 20 or so minutes at the reception. It was held at La Aqua in Darling Harbour who are always professional and through a heck of a celebration.

Ashleigh and Steve’s wedding was actually featured on Real Weddings, where Ashleigh commented “For us, our wedding day was perfect. We wanted it to be a celebration, a party that everyone could enjoy and that’s exactly what it was. It was filled with so much tears and happiness,”.
