Summary of the Year 2017
31 JAN 2018 – Tips and Articles – by Lucas Kraus
So, 2017 was a MASSIVE year! For those who have just stumbled upon my website or don’t know me that well yet, I got married myself, moved to Queensland, photographed 75 weddings in both NSW and QLD and helped raise our son William who is now 18 months old.
When you leave your family, your friends and the city you grew up in behind in search of a different lifestyle, you can’t help but think if you did the right thing. This was my first time moving interstate and it was a big deal for me.
Also hard, was the fact that in Sydney, business was good. Probably to good. I was photographing roughly 70 to 80 weddings per year and working full-time as a media and content producer. With the high price of living in Sydney and the absurd price of housing, I was flat out trying to keep up with life.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Sydney. It is a great place to live, but when we realised how much more value for money you get in Queensland regarding buying a house, it was a no brainer for us. We now have a bigger house for our son William, and live in a more child-friendly suburb.
The hardest part of the transition was the fact that I still had a lot of weddings booked in Sydney. Nearly every weekend I would fly down to Sydney, photograph a wedding and fly back the next day. I also had some Brisbane and Gold Coast weddings mixed in also.
Leaving your young family behind for days at a time on a regular basis takes it toll, and I felt more like a stranger in my own house than somebody who lived there.
My wife and I had been planning our move to the Gold Coast for around 18 months before we actually took the plunge in June 2017. This allowed me enough time to start marketing myself as a Gold Coast and Brisbane wedding photographer (ranking for keywords on google can take a long time) and I even flew up to photograph a few weddings in the process.
Now, 2018 is almost booked out and I have also taken quite a few bookings for 2019. So far, I have weddings booked for Byron Bay, Ballana, Toowoomba, Sunshine Coast as well as Brisbane and the Gold Coast. I have a much healthier work/life balance and get to spend a lot more time with my son. I look forward to exploring this fantastic state and photographing a lot more weddings.
I have added some of my favourite wedding photographs below from 2017. If you are looking for a Brisbane and Gold Coast wedding photographer, then please don’t hesitate to send me an enquiry through my Contact Page, or call me on 0423 722 286.
