Ally and Lee – 01 JAN 2018
The Spit in the Gold Coast
Ally and Lee are engaged and to be married in October 2018. They decided to have an engagement photoshoot, and I’m sure glad they did because the photographs turned out great!
When seeking a location, I suggested The Spit in the Gold Coast. I often come here with my wife and 18 month old son, so I know the area pretty well. This is perhaps my favourite area in the Gold Coast as it is quiet, has magical scenery and the beach has this amazing jetty. As a Gold Coast Engagement Photographer, it is important to know the different areas to recommend to clients based on their wants and needs. Ally and Lee wanted a beach engagement shoot, and it just happens that this particular beach had a bush walking track, a massive jetty and overlooks the Gold Coast. Score!
I recommended to Ally and Lee that we start the engagement shoot at 4:30pm as the sun is lower in the sky and creates a more pleasing light. As you can see from the photographs below, the lighting is nice and soft. The photographs taken on the jetty are perhaps my favourite as the sun is creating some beautiful backlighting and the sun is also hitting the sensor, creating some controlled flare. I also love the photographs taken underneath the jetty as there were amazing colours in the sky, and the underside of the jetty created a sense of depth and interest.
I often forget how much I enjoy engagement shoots as I may only do around 5 or 6 a year. They are more relaxed than weddings and it allows you to get a little more creative with poses, compositions and lighting. I can’t wait to photograph Ally and Lee’s wedding in October!
