Meeting with your wedding photographer

8 NOV 2016 – Tips and Articles – by Lucas Kraus

This weeks article talks about weather or not you should meet with your photographer? In a word, the answer is absolutely! Perhaps one of the most important aspects to being a wedding photographer is being confident, having the necessary people skills and a natural chemistry between the photographer and the bride and groom.

Therefore, how will you know if your wedding photographer has these particular attributes if you don’t meet with them? Although I meet with 90 percent of my clients before booking, there is the odd occasion where I have taken a wedding photography booking with just a phone call. This usually happens if the wedding is booked at short notice or when the couple are too busy to meet with the photographer, to which I suggest meeting up closer to the wedding day. This is perfectly fine and does not impede on my ability to photograph your wedding confidentially or artistically.

I have created my website so you will gain a good understanding of who I am and the way I operate. I have also created a short video which will give you some valuable information which can be seen below. Some wedding photography companies operate differently. You may meet with the Director or the Main photographer to discuss your wedding and what you are after in regards to the wedding photography. However, the photographer on your wedding day will not be the person you met with. I have heard many stories similar to this, and often leave the bride and groom a bit bewildered and upset. This is often the case with big companies who operate across Australia.

When meeting with your photographer, make sure you ask them if they will be the ones photographing their wedding, and if possible get it written into your contract. Personally, I do have assistants or backup photographers who I work with (in case I get sick etc) but I will always be the one photographing your wedding unless I am basically on my death bed. If you are wanting to know more, please visit our Frequently Asked Questions.
