How to have your wedding run smoothly

We are very experienced wedding photographers, having photographed over 500 weddings, we have seen it all. Here are some of the important things to remember when planning your wedding to ensure it runs smoothly

Planning your wedding

When planning your timings, it is a good idea to think of the guests. Nobody wants to wait around for hours in between the ceremony and reception. It is a good idea if you can plan to have your wedding ceremony at 3pm and your reception at 5:30pm. This way, there is only around 2 hours for your guests to have to wait. Depending on your venue, this can be a great fun for your wedding guests.

You could lay out some wedding games for them to play on the grass, and waiters serving snacks and drinks to your guests while you are having your photographs taken. I always suggest spending around 90 minutes doing location photographs as it can be hard work having your wedding portraits taken. I also suggest spending some time with your wedding guests before heading off to do your photographs. Remember, this is your day and you should be allowed to have fun with your guests.

5:30pm is also a great time to have your reception it will be starting to get dark within this time. In winter, the sun will be setting at around 4:30pm, whereas Spring and Autumn 5:30pm is perhaps the best time to have your wedding portraits done.

Bridal Preparation

When planning your bridal preparation, one of the best things I can recommend as a Brisbane wedding photographer, is to get ready near your ceremony. I can not stress how much pressure it will take off you on the day.

So many times I have seen brides get ready at their home which might be a 90 minute drive from the ceremony. Add in traffic, peak hour, running late with hair and makeup and this will all add stress to your wedding day. You don’t want to end up in a fluster AND be late to your wedding.

Instead, hire a hotel near your ceremony so it is only a 5 or 10 minute drive. This way there won’t be any traffic and if you are running late, it won’t be that big of a deal.

Trust your wedding vendors

When hiring your wedding vendors such as wedding photographers, wedding videographers, celebrants and music. It is important to check out their reviews to see if they are experienced in providing their service. This will take a lot of pressure off on your wedding day. The last thing you want is to be worrying if your celebrant will arrive on time, or if your wedding photographer is going to be polite to your guests.

Instead, trust your vendors and make sure you hire ones that have experience in weddings and have good reviews. Also, on the day trust them! This is their passion, their craft, their lifestyle.

Conclusion

By photographing weddings on the Gold Coast  I have developed a great knowledge in how to plan a wedding that runs smoothly. I have seen over 500 weddings and know what works best and what doesn’t. The most important thing is to have fun on your wedding day. Weddings are expensive and you don’t want to look back on your big day and think “I was miserable”.

By planning carefully and implementing some of things I have suggested, you can be sure to have a relaxed wedding day that is full of joy and laughter.
